In November 2013, Dace Blaumanis and Aija Blitte visited the Mexican Cultural Institute. They saw the annual Day of the Dead Altar and celebration. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. This well-known community event featured an intricate altar dedicated to Juan García de Oteyza, former director of the Institute who passed away earlier this year. They also saw textiles and handicrafts of the State of Guerrero in Mexico.
