Fakes of antique carpets are nothing new in the rug and textile business. But today’s version are technically so good that they can fool even top rug experts, famous collectors, textile professors and museum curators. How do the counterfeiters do it.? Textile researcher and International traveler Vedat Karadag has been looking into the question for over 15 years. He will share his former and latest information with us.

Vedat Karadag was born in Ankara in 1956. His degree fron Ankara Gazi University is in Industrial Business and Administration. He is an inveterate and experienced traveler, is an enthusiastic promoter of the appreciation of Anatolia and the Silk Road, its textiles and oriental rugs, and he loves to expose others to the many varied aspects of Turkic culture and to the history, food and artistic traditions of Anatolia and Central Asia. He has been a participant and speaker at the meetings of many rug and textile societies in the USA, and has attended numerous international textile conferences in Europe and America. Vedat has led many exciting textile and cultural oriented trips to Central Asia, Syria, Iran and Anatolia where he takes great delight in showing off the work of local artisans to North American travelers
