Christine Martens is an artist and independent researcher, documenting and writing about the textile traditions of Central Asia in relationship to women's rituals and ceremonies. She teaches at the Spence School in New York City. In 2007-2008, she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award for study of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. She has lectured at the Textile Museum, the ICOC in Istanbul, and at Museums and Universities worldwide. She is a regular contributor to HALI on the textile traditions of Turkey and Central Asia.
