IHBS member Jeff Krauss has been collecting shibori-dyed textiles for several years. Shibori is a group of Japanese resist dyeing techniques that include tying, stitching, clamping and pole wrapping. The dye penetrates some areas and is prevented from entering other areas, resulting in beautiful patterns on silk and cotton. This is another labor-intensive textile technique that is becoming a lost art. We will see two short films that demonstrate the shibori methods, as well as examples of the shibori art from Jeff's collection.
